Laser Therapy

Laser therapy (sometimes referred to as cold laser therapy) is another

arthritis treatment

option for your pet. The same Companion Laser therapy that is used by professional athletes to get them pain-free and back in the game fast is now available for pets.

HOW IT WORKS:

This non-invasive, safe therapy uses advanced lightwave technology to gently stimulate cells deep in the pet’s tissue. This helps to remove damaged tissue, release endorphins for natural pain relief, stimulate protein development, and boost cell metabolism. For some pets who cannot tolerate long-term drug therapies or extensive surgery, laser therapy provides a cost-effective way to decrease your pet’s pain, regain their mobility, and improve their overall quality of life. We offer a laser discount plan that includes your pet’s initial 6 visits to make this an affordable option.

We also utilize laser therapy postoperatively for our routine spays and neuters and for orthopedic surgeries. It helps to reduce inflammation and promote healing at the surgical site and for the incisions.

Arthritis Treatment:

Several older dogs and cats suffer from arthritis, also known as degenerative joint disease. As dogs and cats age, it is common for their joints to become less flexible which impacts their mobility and quality of life. We have the ability to diagnose (with digital X-rays) and medically treat these dogs with a variety of anti-inflammatories, nutraceuticals as well as therapeutic laser treatment.

In some advanced cases of arthritis, the doctors may also recommend using an injectable treatment administered in the office called Polyglycan. Polyglycan supplies glucosamine, hyaluronic acid, and chondroitin, which are all compounds found in your pet’s synovial fluid or joint fluid.

Synovial fluid is a thick liquid that lubricates the joints and allows for ease of movement. Polyglycan is used off-label as an arthritis treatment to help prevent and repair joint degeneration, decrease pain, and increase mobility.

If you notice your dog or cat is limping, has a change of gait, difficulty walking up stairs or jumping on the bed, or is just slow to get up, bring him or her in for a consultation to discuss your options. It really can change your pet’s quality of life and bring a new spring to their step! Contact Dix Hills Animal Hospital today.
